It's 19 years and done for the Goo Goo Dolls and drummer Mike Malinin. The band has announced its parting of the ways with their longtime sticksman who replaced original Goo Goo drummer George Tutuska almost two decades ago.
Malinin had been sitting out of the current leg of the band's tour due to a family matter. Upon his ouster, Malinin took to Twitter on New Year's Eve to invite ousted Bon Jovi guitarist Richie Sambora to start a band with him.
Hey @TheRealSambora, do you want to start a band with me?— Mike Malinin (@mikemalinin) December 31, 2013
He later issued a brief statement thanking fans for their support over the past 19 years, adding that while it was not his decision to leave the band, he wasn't holding any grudges either.
Goo Goo Dolls founders Johnny Rzeznik and Robby Takac also issued a statement wishing Malinin "the best in his new journey" and assuring fans and friends that it was not an easy decision. They added that they were looking forward to continuing their 28-year-journey ad the Goo Goo Dolls.
