'The Four: Battle for Stardom' - Who Is Lex Lu? | EXCLUSIVE

The Four: Battle For Stardom is finally here. The new singing competition show is unlike anything music fans have seen, because it all begins where most other shows end: with the four FINALISTS.

Four very talented singers will defend their spots on stage as they are challenged individually by new singers determined to replace them. If the existing four outperform their challengers, they survive to sing another week, until the end of the season, when the final four face off against each other. But, only one will claim the ultimate prize for an aspiring artist: a team of elite star-makers – the series’ panel of judges (DJ Khaled, Puff Daddy, Meghan Trainor, and Charlie Walk) – all committed to launching and guiding the winner’s music career.

Not only will the winner's career launch with the help of the judges, they will also become iHeartRadio's "On the Verge" artist; an artist development program supporting the winner with airplay across iHeartMedia radio stations nationwide. This program has helped launched the careers of artists like Sam Smith, Fifth Harmony and Nick Jonas, among others.

So, who are The Four contestants kicking off The Four: Battle for Stardom? Say hello to Blair Perkins, Ash Minor, Lex Lu, and Elanese Lansen. iHeartRadio recently got to know more about each budding artist during an exclusive interview. So ... Meet Alexis "Lex Lu" Boyd.

Lex Lu is a rapper and singer born and raised in Los Angeles. Following her career as a backup dancer, Lex has spent the last five years focusing on her solo artistry, and even released an album independently. She tells iHeartRadio, "If you listen to my music, it's a little bit of everything. Yes I rap, but I also sing. I have pop songs and hip hop songs and rock songs and emo songs and punk songs. I'm all over the place. But my favorite thing to do is rap. I can write some really dope lyrics."

MUSICAL INFLUENCES:

"I am heavily influenced by Missy Elliott. Gwen Stafani, Left Eye so TLC, the whole group. And like Kendrick Lamar. I'm a huge Janis Joplin fan. Just a lot of random, but amazing artists. But those are my faves."

MOST NERVOUS ABOUT:

"I'm really nervous about ... well for TV, for reality television, it's really easy to be kind of molded into something you're not. And to kind of get excited with the lights and like everything, and become inauthentic. So for me, the biggest thing is staying true to myself. That's like the scariest thing that I'm like nervous about. It's just not being able to be myself."

STRATEGY TO WIN:

"My strategy is being the best me I can. I am rapper, so I'm a little bit different from the others. As a female rapper, I'm going to be challenged a lot by, I'm pretty sure, a lot of amazing MCs, and I think the thing that I just have to focus on the most is smashing every MC bar for bar. And then not only that, but killing my performances."

WHAT IT WOULD MEAN TO WIN THE FOUR:

"If I won The Four, it would be pretty epic, because I've been working so hard trying to come out and present myself to the world as this independent, powerhouse rapper, pop star thing. It's really difficult. So, I think that given the platform that FOX has, The Four has, that iHeartRadio has, it'd just be amazing. As an independent artist, it's like a dream come true because you almost can't even buy that. It's really difficult when you do everything yourself. So the platform that, if I win, would just be pretty epic. I'm really excited because I'm going to go hard this whole season."
