Happy 77th Birthday to Roger McGuinn. The Byrds, McGuinn developed two innovative and very influential styles of electric guitar playing. The first was "jingle-jangle", the second style, the 2nd was a merging saxophonist John Coltrane's free-jazz atonalities, which hinted at the droning of – a style of playing, first heard on the Byrds' 1966 single Eight Miles High". His music has influenced scores of musicians over the last 55 years, including Tom Petty, who sang on McGuinn's Back from Rio LP, as did Jeff Lynne, Elvis Costello and Dave Stewart.
