Gerry Marsden, lead singer of Gerry and The Pacemakers, has died at the age of 78 after a short illness. Because I was such a huge Beatles' fan as a kid, I gravitated to a lot of the other bands that emerged from Great Britain in the 60's including The Pacemakers, Herman's Hermits, and the Dave Clark Five. Gerry and The Pacemakers' songs like "Ferry Cross the Mersey" and "Don't Let the Sun Catching You Crying" have stood the test of time, due in large part to his rich, distinctive vocals. I just watched the 2020 film "Never Rarely Sometimes Always" last week and was struck by the 17 year old main character's karaoke version of "Don't Let the Sun Catch You Crying."
