ON THIS DAY IN MUSIC HISTORY: 10.

1977 - The notorious album by The Sex Pistols, Never Mind The Bollocks, Here's The Sex Pistols, was released in the UK. Sarcastic attacks on pretentious affectation and the very foundations of British society were all carried out in the most confrontational, impolite manner possible. From the original Rolling Stone review:

"This band still takes rock & roll personally, as a matter of honor and necessity, and they play with an energy and conviction that is positively transcendent in its madness and fever. Their music isn’t pretty — indeed, it often sounds like two subway trains crashing together under forty feet of mud, victims screaming — but it has an Ahab-versus-Moby Dick power that can shake you like no other music today can".

1977 - Neil Young releases Decade. A 35-track selection of the best of Young's work between 1966 and 1976, including everything from Buffalo Springfield, CSNY, solo years, etc. Included the previously unreleased songs, Winterlong, Deep Forbidden Lake, Love Is A Rose, and Campaigner.

1999 - Denver Broncos running back Terrell Davis, out with an injury, tries his hand at rapping when he performs at the Denver nightclub F-Stop (formerly Wazoos). To the delight of the capacity crowd and the constantly flashing lights of cameras from both local and national media outlets, Davis provided some backing raps for his buddy and hip-hopping comrade, Legit.

2003 - The Strokes follow up their critically acclaimed debut, Is This It, with the album Room On Fire. The title is taken from the single "Reptilia," which features the lyric: "The room is on fire as she's fixing her hair."

2007 - Country musician Porter Wagoner died in Nashville aged 80. Wagoner helped launch the career of Dolly Parton and had his own TV show, which ran for 21 years until 1981.

2014 - At their regular haunt - the Beacon Theater in New York City - The Allman Brothers Band play their final show, a four-hour set that goes past midnight, ending on the anniversary of Duane Allman's death. (Photo by Scott Gries/Getty Images)
