The 1975 have officially responded to a suit filed by the promoter of the Good Vibes Festival in Malaysia.
The suit filed by Future Sound Asia, said that Matty Healy and Ross McDonald's onstage kiss led to the event being canceled by the local government and cost the promoter over $2 million in damages. The promoter claimed that the band was aware of the numerous restrictions in place, including no smoking, swearing, drinking, taking off clothes or talking about politics or religion.
The band's response was filed late last month with the U.K.'s High Court, and in it they denied that the kiss was pre-planned and that they didn't know the show would be cancelled because of it.
The filing also argued that the rules they are accused of breaking were, on “face of it," guidelines that “do not impose any obligation” on international acts. They added that with Healy’s history of speaking out about LGBTQ+ rights, the promoters should not have booked a band whose actions could have lead to the festival being canceled.
