The Grateful Dead were in talks to reunite next year to celebrate their 60th anniversary.
Bob Weir, Bill Kreutzmann and Mickey Hart did an interview with CBS Mornings five days after the unexpected death of Phil Lesh on October 25th at age 84. Lesh was supposed to be part of the chat, to discuss their Kennedy Center Honors on CBS in December. And then the day after the interview, they were to meet with Lesh to discuss what to do to celebrate their 60th.
Kreutzmann says, “I was hoping that we could play with him again one more time. So that was my sadness… ’Cause I know he wanted to play with us again too.”
And Weir adds, “We were gonna see where it goes. But we were just gonna play the four of us.”
The Dead last played together in 2015 for their 50th anniversary.
