Jonathan Joss, actor from King of the Hill and Parks and Rec, killed Sunday

Jonathan Joss, best known for voicing John Redcorn on King of the Hill, was fatally shot Sunday in San Antonio, Texas, Variety reports.

His husband, Tristan Kern de Gonzales, said the shooting followed "years of threats and harassment" from neighbors. The couple had returned to their former home site, destroyed by fire earlier that year, when they were confronted by a man who opened fire. Joss reportedly pushed de Gonzales out of harm's way, sacrificing his life. The alleged shooter, 56-year-old Sigfredo Alvarez Ceja, is in police custody.

Authorities are investigating the incident as a hate crime.

Joss had recently attended the ATX Television Festival in Austin, discussing the loss of his home and pets in the January fire. He was set to reprise his role in the upcoming King of the Hill reboot. Joss's career included roles in Parks and RecreationWalker, Texas Ranger, and True Grit. He was also a musician with The Red Corn Band.
