North Korea Says It Will Suspend Missile Tests, Close Nuclear Test Site

North Korea has suspended nuclear and long-range ballistic missile tests and will close its nuclear test site North Korea's official Central News Agency said Friday night.

The suspension of nuclear and ICBM tests begin Saturday after the country said they were no longer "necessary." The North's decisions came after a meeting of the ruling party's full Central Committee, which had met to discuss a new stage of politics, and shift the nation's focus toward improving its economy.

The country's shift in tone comes just days before North Korean leader Kim Jong Un will meet with South Korean President Moon Jae-in at a border village for a summit. The hermit kingdom is also set to meet with President Donald Trump, who noted the North's concession in a tweet Friday night.

A message from Kim Jong Un: “North Korea will stop nuclear tests and launches of intercontinental ballistic missiles.” Also will “Shut down a nuclear test site in the country’s Northern Side to prove the vow to suspend nuclear tests.” Progress being made for all!
