Selena Gomez Email Hacker Charged With Five Felonies In Los Angeles

21-year-old Susan Atrach of Ridgefield Park, New Jersey was charged last week for hacking Selena Gomez's private email accounts, as well as storing some of her data. The Los Angeles Police Department released a press release that stated Atrach was charged five felony counts of identity theft, five felony counts of accessing and using computer data to commit fraud or to control or obtain money, property or data, and one felony count of accessing and using computer data or taking supporting documentation without permission. Yikes!

Atrach was behind the nude photos of Selena's ex Justin Bieber being posted to the actress' Instagram account back in 2017. The photos were from a 2015 trip to Bora Bora, which concide with the time that Selena was reportedly hacked. Page Six reports that Atrach obtained the photos between June 2015 and February 2016 when Selena was hacked multiple times.  Atrach allegedly stole Selena's datas and photos then stored them to post online at a later date.

Selena deleted her instagram account after the photos were posted. Kirsten Stubbs, the Digital Marketing Director at Interscope Records, tweeted at the time that Selena's record label orchestrated the takedown of her Instagram account following the hack. "We deactivated with Instagram to ensure it's secure before relaunching! Hang tight," she said following the incident. Selena is the most followed person on Instagram, so, the social media platform reacted quickly to the incident.

The charges against Atrach carry a maximum of nine years in prison, according to the LAPD. She will surrender to police in Los Angeles and will be arraigned on August 27.
