Despite its tenuous connection to the holiday, the album has become a traditional spin on rock stations during Thanksgiving. The true, but over exaggerated story begins with Arlo and his friend getting busted for illegally dumping garbage from a Thanksgiving feast at Alice's Restaurant, and quickly devolves into a farcical tale about dodging the Vietnam draft.
