Dan Smith Is Running A Marathon To Raise Money For Breast Cancer Research

Bastille's Dan Smith is showing his charitable (and athletic) side by signing up for the London Marathon along with his friends Ails and Mike. Together, they're raising money for Breast Cancer Now — a breast cancer research facility with the goal of giving those who develop the disease a 100% survival rate by 2050 —and have already raised over £10,700 for the cause. Smith wrote a personal story on the team's donation page, which you can read in full below:

1 in 7 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime — it’s the most commonly occurring cancer in women and the second most common cancer overall. Charities like Breast Cancer Now provide funds for amazing and vital research that help people survive this horrible disease.
My Mum was diagnosed with breast cancer and benefitted from amazing treatment and care. I feel so incredibly lucky that her treatment was successful and I desperately want that for every family affected by the disease.
Me, Ails and Mike are proud to be (attempting to) run the London Marathon in support of Breast Cancer Now. It’s a brilliant charity and any support for it would be massively appreciated. I’m also going to match whatever we raise.
I can’t speak for Ails and Mike, but anyone who’s seen the music video for “Pompeii” will know that I’m not the most talented or graceful runner. So if the idea of 26 miles worth of my uncoordinated shuffle remotely appeals, feel free to sponsor us and we’ll love you forever.

The singer also let his Twitter followers know about the race, which is going down on April 28, and asked for playlist suggestions. Check out his post below.
