New Tom Petty Book Takes Different Perspective

Jon Scott, who was a DJ at rock station WMC-FM 100 from 1967 to 1974 before working in promotions for MCA Records and ABC Records, has just released a new book about his friend Tom Petty. It's called "Tom Petty and Me, My Rock 'n' Roll Adventures With Tom Petty". Scott takes a different approach in this book as it's more from a friends perspective than a musicologist. Everyone knows about Tom's music, awards and honors etc, but what about Tom Petty the person? That's where this book comes in.

Just a little background on Scott. He is credited with convincing radio stations to play Petty’s music early — before he found stardom with his longtime band, the Heartbreakers, “I saw a different side of Tom,” Scott says. “We became friends, and our family became friends. He was an average guy, a funny guy, a really shy guy who never went to backstage parties and wasn’t comfortable around a lot of people. He was also really hilarious. And he was genius at what he did.” In the above video clip, Petty at his final concert thanks Scott and dedicates "I Won't Back Down".
