A hero to me! Lou Reed was a fearless trailblazer, co-founder of The Velvet Underground, brilliant solo performer and all-around boundary-free artist. You can listen to my 2003 interview with him here. He was known for being, um, difficult, but as you can hear, he was pretty warm and told me after the interview that he wanted to move to Colorado but didn't think he could ever leave New York. He must have meant it: shortly thereafter, Reed and the performance artist Laurie Anderson were, in fact, married in Boulder.
