In light of the Texas school massacre on Tuesday, Don McLean has pulled out of his performance this weekend at the National Rifle Association convention in Houston, 250 miles from Uvalde where 19 students and two teachers were gunned down.
He says, "In light of the recent events in Texas, I have decided it would be disrespectful and hurtful for me to perform for the NRA... I’m sure all the folks planning to attend this event are shocked and sickened by these events as well. After all, we are all Americans.
"I share the sorrow for this terrible, cruel loss with the rest of the nation."
Prior to McLean's decision, he was scheduled to do an interview today (Wednesday) on Boston public radio station WGBH but was bumped because of his scheduled performance this weekend.
Other artists scheduled to perform at the convention are Lee Greenwood, Danielle Peck and Larry Gatlin.
There is a chance that the convention could be canceled as Texas Governor Greg Abbott is being pressured to move it to another state.
