The woman who inspired the classic cover painting on Duran Duran's Rio album has been identified.
Duran Duran commissed Playboy illustrator Patrick Nagel to make the painting, and Nagel experts Monica Moynihan and Mark Walker have identfied the woman as model Marcie Hunt.
Walker tracked down the album cover’s original source image, a multi-page editorial spread in the February 1981 issue of Vogue Paris that features Hunt wearing glasses and a fedora -- and that cherry ice-cream smile that is promimently displayed on the Rio cover.
