A pair of John Lennon’s tinted round glasses were sold at auction in Surrey, England Wednesday, and the buyer is illusionist Uri Geller.
He tells the BBC he was “elated” with his purchase.
“John Lennon and I were very good friends while we were living in New York in the 1970s. I knew I had to buy these glasses. I would have gone up to £500,000 ($636,000). Glasses are a passage into our soul, into our psyche.”
He paid just under $51,000 for them.
Geller, who also owns a lock of Lennon's hair and a sketch he made of a UFO, plans to display the glasses in his own museum in his hometown of Tel Aviv, Israel.
Lennon gave the glasses, with blue-tinted lenses, to a man who was visiting Abbey Road Studios in 1968.
