Bonnie Raitt and The Grateful Dead were in Washington, D.C. Sunday as they were among the recipients of the Kennedy Center Honors. The Kennedy Center recognizes entertainers for their "lifetime contributions to American culture through the performing arts."
Paying tribute to Bonnie during the ceremony were Sheryl Crow, Dave Matthews, Brandie Carlile, Emmylou Harris, James Taylor, Jackson Browne and actress Julia Louis-Dreyfus, who said, “You know it’s Bonnie. It’s all red hair and no bulls***.”
Sheryl and Brandie performed “I Can’t Make You Love Me,” Matthews and Emmylou did John Prine's “Angel From Montgomery,” and Sheryl, Browne, Taylor and Arnold McCuller did “Nick of Time.”
The Dead -- Bob Weir, Bill Kreutzmann and Mickey Hart -- looked on as Grahame Lesh, son of the late Dead bassist Phil Lesh, Don Was, Sturgill Simpson, Dave Matthews, Maggie Rogers, Leon Bridges and Susan Tedeschi performed “Fire on the Mountain,” "Ripple," “Sugaree” and “Not Fade Away.”
The ceremony will air on CBS and Paramount+ on December 22nd.
