A piece of Doors' history went up in smoke last week ... literally.
The downtown Los Angeles building that was once home to the Morrison Hotel, which is where they shot the cover to their fifth album of the same name, went up in flames Thursday.
The cover was shot by Henry Diltz in December 1969. However, the hotel did not give permission so when the front desk attendant stepped away, the band seized the moment, ran in and stood behind the window while Diltz snapped away from the sidewalk.
Morrison Hotel was released in February 1970 and peaked at four on the Billboard 200. Among the songs on the album are "Roadhouse Blues," "Waiting for the Sun," "Land Ho!" and "Ship of Fools."
