A popular food product sold in stores around the country, including in Colorado, has been recalled over the potential of causing a serious health issue.

May Flower International Inc. recently issued a recall of its 8.82 ounce (250 gram) packages of "Beijing Soybean Paste food treats" as they could possibly contain undeclared wheat not included on the label, according to a recall notice shared by the U.S. Food & Drug Administration.

The recall was initiated after a routine inspection found the label declared flour as an ingredient but not wheat. This mislabeling could pose the risk of a "serious or life-threatening allergic reaction" to consumers with a sensitivity or allergy to wheat.

The Beijing Soybean Paste, sold in red plastic packages, was distributed to retail stores nationwide between 03/25/23 and 03/05/2024, and features the UPC 6917799000385.

As of time of the recall, there have been no allergic reaction reported in connection to consuming the product. Consumers are still encouraged to return the product to the place of purchase for a full refund.
