Alice Merton vs Kanye West and why she wouldn't let him use her song.

Alice Merton has filed suit against Kanye West for using an unauthorized sample.

TMZ reports that Merton filed the suit Tuesday in U.S. federal court and that it claims Kanye sampled her song "Blindside" for his "Gun to My Head." Merton released her song on S.I.D.E.S. in June 2022, and first learned West sampled it when she heard "Gun to My Head" in December 2023.

The suit says that just before Vultures, the album "Gun to My Head" is on, was slated to be released in February 2024 she was asked to clear the sample through BMG Rights Management, but she rejected it. Merton says that when BMG E-mailed her to ask why she'd denied the request, she replied that Kanye's "values are contrary to our values."

The suit goes on to say that Merton was concerned about Kanye's "antisemitic, racist remarks which were made publicly and continue to be made publicly." She adds that she's gotten threats from his fans for not allowing him to sample her song.
