Billy Joel says the HBO documentary And So It Goes made him discover some hidden feelings about his father.
Joel sang about his relationship with his his father Howard Joel in "Vienna." The song was inspired by his father leaving him, his mother Rosalind and sister Judy when Billy was 8 years old and how he tracked him down many years later.
Joel told People the doc's co-director Susan Lacy "pointed out that a lot of the things I was searching for were my father in my life, and I recognized that in the documentary. I said, ‘You know what? I think that’s true. I was looking for my dad.’”
Part two of Billy Joel: And So It Goes premieres Friday on HBO and HBO Max.
