Florence Welch of Florence + the Machine has revealed the details about the emergency surgery she had two years ago that forced her to cancel a number of dates.
At the time she told fans that she couldn't go into details about the surgery because she didn’t “really feel strong enough to go into yet” but that it “saved my life.”
Welch revealed to The Guardian that it was it was due to an ectopic pregnancy. That's when a fertilized egg implants and grows outside the main cavity of the uterus. Welch said that at the Cornwall Music Festival she felt sick and was in pain, and after she performed, she met her physician who discovered that her fallopian tube had ruptured. She said, “I had a Coke can’s worth of blood in my abdomen."
Welch said she was rushed to surgery, adding "The closest I came to making life was the closest I came to death."
