Stop Making Sense, Jonathan Demme’s 1984 Talking Heads concert documentary, has been added to the National Film Registry. It joins the Library of Congress along with Return of the Jedi, Wall-E,The Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring, John Waters’ Pink Flamingos, and Gregory Nava’s Selena. With the establishment of the National Film Registry in 1988, the Library of Congress has annually selected new films for preservation that are “culturally, historically or aesthetically significant,” and which are “works of enduring importance to American culture.” The 1979 comedy specialRichard Pryor: Live in Concert is also among this year’s additions, as is Whatever Happened to Baby Jane? and Michael Schultz’s Cooley High. Last year’s inductees included Grease, The Blues Brothers, A Clockwork Orange, Freedom Riders, The Joy Luck Club, and Shrek.
