Isaac Slade, the keyboard-playing frontman of The Fray, is leaving the band he founded 20 years ago this year.
Slade announced it Saturday on his Instagram, writing that he'd let his bandmates know "five or six years ago" that he was ready to start his "long exit ramp and now it’s finally time." He adds that "it’s all good" and that he wishes his bandmates "all the best in whatever they do next."
As for his own plans, Slade says he, his wife and their two kids are "ready to start dreaming up" what he's going to do with the rest of his "little life on earth."
The Fray released four studio albums between 2005 and 2014 with Slade as their frontman. All went Top 10 with the exception of their best-selling one, their debut How to Save a Life, which has sold nearly 2.4 million copies and been certified four times platinum.
That album includes two of their three Top 10 singles, "Over My Head (Cable Car)" and "How to Save a Life." "You Found Me," from their self-titled, four times platinum follow-up was their final top 10, though "Never Say Never," "Heartbeat" and "Love Don't Die" all had some radio success.
The band haven't released anything since their 2016 best-of compilation Through the Years, which includes their last single to date, "Singing Low." It's not known yet what plans the remaining members -- guitarist Dave Welch, bassist Joe King and drummer Ben Wysocki -- have for The Fray, or if they'll continue to use the name.
