"Everybody Hurts" by R.E.M. is the saddest song ever in a new survey of music fans conducted by OnePoll and International Association for the Study of Popular Music.
The rest of the Top 5 is “Nothing Compares 2 U” by Sinead O'Connor, "Tears in Heaven" by Eric Clapton, "I Will Always Love You" by Whitney Houston and "Yesterday" by The Beatles.
Of the 2000 people taking part in the survey, 48% said music has a big impact on their mood. 36% choose a sad song when they are feeling nostalgic and 24% play sad tracks after a breakup. And close to 50% said that some sad songs can even make their mood better.
