1958 - John Lennon's mother Julia was killed by a car driven by a drunk driver. John was 17 at the time. He wrote about her in song with "Julia" from the White album and "Mother" plus "My Mummy's Dead" from his solo album "John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band.

1978 - The Rolling Stones' Some Girls album hits #1 in America. While the album is a commercial and critical hit, it comes with controversy. First, the lyrics of the title track...then the cover. Designed by Peter Corriston, it featured The Rolling Stones in garish drag alongside select female celebrities and lingerie ads. It ran into trouble because no one thought to get the permission of the celebrities. Lucille Ball, Farrah Fawcett, Liza Minnelli (representing her mother Judy Garland), Raquel Welch, and the estate of Marilyn Monroe all threatened legal action. Their pictures were blocked out on future copied.

2012 - "Gangnam Style" was unleashed upon the world. Performed by K-Pop singer PSY, the song debuted on YouTube and became its most-watched video (ever. in history.).

2016 - In what they famously describe as a 'conscious uncoupling,' Chris Martin of Coldplay and actress Gwyneth Paltrow officially divorce after more than ten years of marriage. (Photo by Christopher Polk/Getty Images)

2016 - As he's done since 1972, Alice Cooper announces he's running for president, this time with the campaign slogan "A Troubled Man for Troubled Times." He loses to Donald Trump...

2018 - "November Rain" by Guns N' Roses became the first '90s video to pass a billion views on YouTube. The next closest '90s video was "Zombie" by The Cranberries, at 739 million.
