1967 - Enjoying a wild birthday party, Keith Moon, drummer for The Who, drove a Lincoln car into a Holiday Inn swimming pool. Moon said “Half-a-dozen cars were parked around this swimming pool. I ran out, jumped into the first car I came to, which was a brand new Lincoln Continental.”

Did he or didn't he?

Roger Daltrey: “I saw it. We paid the bill [for the damages]. It was $50,000. It’s vague now, but I just remember the car in the pool. But then I read in the biography that never happened, so maybe I’ve been living someone else’s life, I don’t know.”

John Entwistle: “He never drove a car into the swimming pool. He couldn’t even drive.” — If that doesn’t sum up the legendary Keith Moon, we don’t know what will. (Photo by Gareth Cattermole/Getty Images)

1970 - Lou Reed plays his last gig with The Velvet Underground at the club Max's Kansas City in New York. His father brings him home to Long Island and puts him to work in his accounting firm, where he stays for two years before signing a solo deal.

1980 - David Bowie released Scary Monsters (And Super Creeps). Returning to relatively conventional rock & roll, the album effectively acts as an encapsulation of all his '70s experiments. Reworking glam rock themes with avant-garde synth flourishes, and reversing the process as well, Bowie creates dense but accessible music throughout Scary Monsters. Featured "Ashes To Ashes." The song referenced Bowie's Major Tom character from his 1969 song, "Space Oddity." Bowie described the song as a "nursery rhyme" and also as his way of "wrapping up the 70s" for himself.

2007 - Brian May of Queen gets a degree from London's Imperial College. It's not one of those honorary degrees either - he earned a PhD in astrophysics. He would have gotten it sooner, but he was busy being a rock star.
