TWO BEATLES & THE STONES: Dream Show That Never Happened

In the new deluxe reissue of John Lennon's 1974 album, Mind Games, which was released on Friday, is a copy of a correspondence from him to Paul McCartney asking if he with Wings would do a benefit show with him at New York's Madison Square Garden.

Lennon wrote, “Right on brother and sister! Now what do we do with 'The Luck of the Irish' and ‘Sunday Bloody Sunday'? Would you do a Madison Square Garden with Wings, Plastic Ono and Stones? We’ve already talked to Mick [Jagger]. Also in three weeks actually go to Ireland (again possibly with Stones). Lets forget our past and save some people. Good luck anyway, we’re proud of you”.

He signed it "Sonny and Cher O’Lennon."

Obviously the show never happened, and Lennon wasn't the only Beatle to strike out in doing a show with a former bandmate.

George Harrison invited John and Paul to take part in his August 1st, 1971 all-star charity show, The Concert for Bangladesh.

Lennon agreed, but reportedly had a fight with Yoko and decided not to participate. McCartney declined, citing tension caused by The Beatles legal problems, and Ringo, who was George's best friend in the group, was never invited, but did show up and performed.
