Will Sharpe to direct "Crying in H Mart" by Japanese Breakfast

Japanese Breakfast (a.k.a Michelle Zauner) has revealed that Will Sharpe, a Season Two cast member of the popular HBO series The White Lotus, will direct the film adaptation of her memoir, Crying in H Mart.

Zauner announced that the film rights to the book had been sold in 2021, the year it was published, but there has been little news of it since.

Sharpe tells People that the story of Japanese Breakfast, who is half Korean and half American and grew up in Eugene, Oregon, particularly resonates with him, since he is half Japanese and half British and spent his childhood in Tokyo.

He says, “Some of the descriptions of being jet-lagged in your family’s kitchen felt very familiar to me.” (NME)
