Dinosaur Jr. disses the restaurants in Amhurst, Mass + they fight back

Dinosaur Jr. front man J. Mascis isn't a fan of the restaurants in his hometown Amherst, Massachusetts. In fact, he calls them "all horrible."

Speaking on the podcast How Long Gone, Mascis added, "I’ve traveled everywhere and this is like the worst food anywhere pretty much.”

Mascis may be a hometown hero in Amherst, but the local Business Improvement District not only differs with his assessment, they're not taking it lying down. They've launched “Take a Dino to Dinner,” a 10-week campaign to promote Amherst as a dining destination. As a nod to Mascis's former band, they're giving away toy dinosaurs at the local Visitor Information Center to anyone about to visit a restaurant downtown. They've also initiated a weekly $50 drawing for diners for the duration of the campaign. (Stereogum
