A popular snack sold in stores around the country, including in Colorado, has been recalled over the risk it poses for certain consumers' health.

Mondelēz Global LLC is voluntarily recalling four carton sizes of specific RITZ Cracker Sandwich products over a labeling error that could pose a "serious or life-threatening" allergic reaction to consumers with an allergy or sever sensitivity to peanuts, according to a recall notice shared July 8 by the U.S. Food & Drug Administration.

The nationwide recall affects the RITZ Peanut Butter Cracker Sandwiches sold in 8-pack, 20-pack and 40-pack cartons as well as the RITZ Filled Cracker Sandwich Variety Pack in the 20-pack carton with specific Best When Used By Dates and Plant Codes. "The affected cartons include individually wrapped packs that may be incorrectly labeled as Cheese variety even though the product may be a Peanut Butter variety," the recall notice states. The outer cartons, however, are labeled correctly and include a disclaimer that the product contains peanuts.

As of July 8, there have been no reported illnesses in connection with the recall. Consumer with a peanut allergy are urged not to eat the affected products and to throw them out.
