Apparently the rumors circulating since last fall that a Weezer movie was in the works are true.
It all got started when actor Ben Schwartz, best-known as the voice of Sonic The Hedgehog, showed up on stage at one of the last stops on their Voyage to the Blue Planet last October. He was followed by a camera crew and told told the crowd, “Now, there’s a big fight where Weezer is fighting these big villains. And what’s going to happen now is they’re going to follow me, and I’m going to be fighting in different areas. And I’m going to say, ‘Someone throws a punch at someone from Weezer,’ and you’ll react to that. And then I say, ‘And Weezer kicks their butt!,’ and you react to that.”
Then this past Saturday Rivers Cuomo told the Coachella audience, “We’ve been busy making the Weezer movie back in LA the last couple weeks, but when Coachella called us up, said, ‘Hey Weezer, could you guys make it out for a surprise appearance?,’ we’re like, ‘Heck yeah!’ It feels so good to be here with you guys and let out these emotions.”
And apparently there's a "filmed merchandise signing” coming up on April 21st for this project and fans can participate if they’re willing to sign an NDA and wait for a long time.
