The Boss to release a cover of a Pogues' song, in tribute to Shane MacGowan

Bruce Springsteen will release a new song this Thursday.

It's a cover of The Pogues' "A Rainy Night in Soho," which he performed during stops in Ireland in May 2024 in tribute to that band's late singer Shane MacGowan who died the previous November.

While on tour in Ireland in 2023, Springsteen paid a visit to the ailing MacGowan, which his wife Victoria said, "What an amazing honor and a beautiful experience to get a visit from The Boss. Such a truly wonderful man and a total genius.”

And following his death, Springsteen posted a photo of MacGowan and himself on Instagram, captioning it with, "Shane was one of my all-time favorite writers. The passion and deep intensity of his music and lyrics is unmatched by all but the very best in the rock and roll canon. I was fortunate to spend a little time with Shane the last time we were in Dublin. He was very ill, but still beautifully present in his heart and spirit. His music is timeless and eternal. I don’t know about the rest of us, but they’ll be singing Shane’s songs 100 years from now."

MacGowan was 65 when he passed from pneumonia.
