It sounds like Joe Walsh has more going on that just a bout of the flu that sidelined him from his first-ever Eagles show in January.
While thanking a fan on Instagram for bringing him green tea all the way from Tokyo, he wrote, “I’ve been dealing with some health issues these last few months and will get through this stronger than ever but I’m grateful for everyone being so patient with me, grateful for the care I’ve received here in Las Vegas and grateful for the fans who continue to show up each night and share their joy with us.”
We reached out to his spokeswoman to see exactly what's going on, and she tells us, “It was a nasty flu."
The Eagles recently finished up their residency at the Sphere in Las Vegas with shows 57 and 58, and Walsh hung around town to take in the Phish show there on Saturday and was surprised when they performed one of his songs.
Phish frontman and guitarist Trey Anastasio said, “When we were about to walk onstage, somebody came up and told us that somebody that all four of us are an enormous fan of came to see the show tonight and is sitting here watching. So I just wanted to pause and send a message of love to Mr. Joe Walsh. Hi Joe! I didn’t mean to embarrass ya.
“We’re really excited. And, Joe, in case you don’t know this… Your music, when we were in middle school and high school, they were probably the first songs – we were talking backstage – the first songs we ever played in our whole life. The basis for everything that we do is you.
“So we want to thank you, right here in front of everybody. And one of the first covers that we ever learned in this band, over 40 years ago, is one of your songs.”
With that they did The James Gang's "Walk Away," and Walsh was pleased, posting a snippet of the performance, which he captioned, "Phish played the hell out of my song. I wasn’t expecting that. A serious honor. What great jobs we have. What great guys."
The Eagles head to New Orleans for a performance at the Jazz & Heritage Festival on May 2nd followed later in the month by three stadium shows in Atlanta, Nashville and Arlington, Texas, and a theater show in Hollywood, Florida.
