The last project Glen Hansard was working on before his death last week was an all-star album he was recording in Philadelphia.
It was produced by The War on Drugs drummer Charlie Hall, and the musicians on it includes War on Drugs bassist Dave Hartley, Wilco guitarist Nels Cline, k.d. lang and Sharon Van Etten.
Hall tells the Philadelphia Inquirer that the album is essentially finished, but that when he recently spoke to Hansard he was eager to return to do more recording.
Hall adds, “He loved it here. I mean, he wanted to call [the album] Philadelphia, first of all. I don’t know if that’s what it will be. But that’s what he always called it.”
It’s not clear when it will be released, but Hall said “it’s beautiful and I hope his fans get to hear it because he worked really hard on it.”
Hansard died in a motorcycle accident in Dublin on July 29th.
